Definition
An inviable phenotype observed in the vegetative growth phase of the life cycle in which a cell lyses, i.e. the plasma membrane ruptures and cytoplasm is lost, during a cellular response to non-ionic osmotic stress. Note that in fission yeast cell lysis, the integrity of the cell wall is also compromised.
