A cellular process phenotype observed in the vegetative growth phase of the life cycle in which the formation of chromatin knobs in subtelomeric regions is normal (i.e. indistinguishable from wild type). Chromatin knobs are highly condensed chromatin bodies formed from subtelomeric heterochromatin (observed on chromosomes 1 and 2).
