- A cellular process phenotype in which mating cells undergo transient cell fusion (cytogamy), and then one or both cells undergo haploid meiosis and sporulation. In transient cytogamy, cells fuse for a much shorter time than normal during mating, separate with incomplete exchange of cytosol contents, and the conjugation pore then reseals.
