GO biological process ontology term - GO:0006096 - glycolysis

Term summary

ID
GO:0006096
Name
glycolysis
Ontology or CV name
GO biological process
Definition
The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the breakdown of D-glucose into pyruvate, with the concomitant production of a small amount of ATP and reduced electron carriers, usually NADH. The pathway proceeds via phosphorylated hexose intermediates that are cleaved into two triose units, one of which is glycerone phosphate (dihydroxyacetone phosphate).
